Get Turned On In The Daylight

Posted by fantasycouriers on September 26, 2008

Less deaths on British roads.

Any new vehicle sold in the UK under European law after 2011must be fitted with automatic daytime lights.

European cars like Volvo etc have driving round the UK with their lights on for years, making them very easy to spot on our roads. That’s why motorcyclists and cyclists have being encouraged  for years to have lights on in daylight, so why not cars , vans, and lorries. If this new law helps to reduce deaths and injury on our roads that’s fantastic said Sandra Patterson www.boxby.co.uk we have over 800 vans and lorries running round the UK every day,  making deliveries that are always on a deadline.

Irish Minister Says “On Your Bike”

Posted by fantasycouriers on September 25, 2008

Employers have being told by Irelands Transport Minister, to get their employees out of their car.

With ever increasing costs of fuel and the amount of vehicles on the road today, the Ministers wants to encourage people to leave their cars at home, and travel by public transport, cycling and walking.

The Department for Regional development has made some suggestions to encourage staff to leave their car at home. The department introduced a car share scheme two years ago that is used by over 1900 people today. This car share scheme has saved just under 4,000,000 million miles, £380,000 and over 700 tonnes of C02.

Employers can also look for ideas to encourage their staff to use other transport to work, and to make it a healthier environment. I appreciate for many people car-sharing is not always the best way to go,sharing with some one that you don’t really know or like can be very awkward, but if you have a family friend or a work colleague to share with, can help to reduce your running costs and amount of traffic on the roads.

“I’m Quitting, Prime Minister”

Posted by fantasycouriers on September 24, 2008

I’m off because ???????  Ruth Kelly has decided to put her family first she explained, I need to spend more time with them.

This is another big upset for the government, or is it?  Is she leaving because she knows whats going to happen in next month’s budget announcement?

Is it going to be any better when the new transport secretary takes over, I think not.

I think a good start would be if they started playing Fantasy Couriers, for FREE. In fact why don’t we invite the shadow transport minister and secretary of all the parties to play, you never know they might learn something.  This would let them get understanding of what it is like to run a transport business today.

A Transport Minister needs to know the problems of roads and the uncertainty of the rising costs of fuel etc and the way that affects our standards of living that we all work hard for every day.

Lets keep our fingers crossed.

P.S  If you want to nominate a politician just make your nomination here.  Infact, lets give them their very own leaderboard!!

British firms make progress with Biofuels in India

Posted by fantasycouriers on September 21, 2008

Good news, a new fuel is being developed in India which is cheaper and cleaner than traditional fuels.

That two British companies have a joint venture in making bio fuels from a field of jatropha plants that’s planted in rust-red soils, heavy with iron. The people of the small village has being promised by the two Companies they will pay about 14 cents for every kilogram of the black seeds found inside every plant. Crushed, the seeds yield a viscous oil that burns with a clear, and very clean flame.

The oil from the plants can run a generator or a large pump, But the big thing is can it be made to run lorries and cars and even aeroplanes, just think of the benefits to the environment that would make.

This is the kind of breakthrough that the transport industry needs right now, to keep the lorries and vans on the roads with less costs and much reduced pollutants.

India’s enthusiasm for biofuels may seem odd, its just a month or so that there finance minister described conversion of food crops onto biofuel as “a crime against humanity. But D1- BP point out that their favoured crops need not compete with the food crops for land or water. The plants are very hardy that can grow on very dry, stony soil. The technical director for D1-BP says that 150 acres of pongramia and jatropha requires only as much water as a single acre of traditional crops. It will take two or three yours for the Indian farmers to start to see a good return on there hard work, that will benefit them and the rest of the world.
